Green Calgary presented their Clean Calgary program to Room 4 this morning. Students examined bottles and labels and determined which was more eco-friendly.
Did you know that the world has only 1% of drinking water available to humans?
Did you know that companies are not required to disclose all ingredients for cleaning products?
Did you know that plastic forks, plates etc. actually do not belong in the compost bin?
Here is what some students learned from the program:
-some cleaning products are more natural than others
-some cleaning products will explode if container is compressed
-tin is very easy to recycle
-only a few containers had the recycle symbol on them
-biodegradable is located on the labels (ability to dissolve in water
-bananas, strawberries, yard waste, egg shells, food peels, dog waste can all go in the compost/green bin
-composted materials can go in your garden to help it grow
-company transparency means that a company is honest and tells us everything about the ingredients in a cleaning product
-hot water is a great cleaner because it helps to break down the dirt and kills bacteria
-vegetable oil is great to clean stainless steel appliances
-Castile soap loosens grine and dirt
-salt in cleaning products removes stains
-baking soda is a natural product to help remove bad smells around the house
Room 4 and Room 5 joined up together to play Gaga Ball and Octopus Tag outside on Tuesday afternoon. The snow and chilly weather prevented us from doing this again today SO we made make shift Gaga Ball courts in the gym.
