We could not have asked for better weather for our full day field study at Weaselhead. Thank you to our 5 volunteers who joined us to support the learning of the students of Room 4. We wouldn't have these days without parent support.
We read an Indigenous story to begin our day while taking in the beautiful view from atop a cliff. We then ventured down a winding path to meet Elder Harley to continue our learning of the land. Please ask your child about what Elder Harley spoke to the group about. We will work on a personal reflection this week about what brought us joy during our time on the land.
During the afternoon portion of the day, students worked in small groups to create a shelter (constructed with only natural materials), a medicine wheel and 4 related symbols to represent each quadrant of the wheel.
Groups then continued on to complete a Tree Adoption learning task. Students were given a variety of clues/descriptions to assist in locating the type of tree our class was going to adopt and observe over the upcoming year. Ask your child what type of tree we adopted as a class. In the end, we adopted 5 trees (instead of one) which is what Elder Harley would have wanted.
It was the perfect day!! Please take a look at the photos below for more insight into our day.
