Tomorrow afternoon we are heading out on a community walk. The students will be partnered up with someone 'new' during their walk to work on expanding their peer relationships. These new pairing will be working on completing both a 3D Shape Scavenger Hunt AND a Geometry Scavenger Hunt (line segments, parallel lines, different angles etc.). Please have your child wear the proper foot wear for the afternoon.
The students have also been working on creating properly structured paragraphs using the Hamburger Method. They are all writing at least 4 paragraphs on the animal they had previously researched - connecting to our novel study The Wild Robot. The students completed these paragraphs in Google Docs which is accessible from home. If you have a moment, check out your child's paragraph writing.
In PE we are turning our attention to floor hockey.

This week during our literacy block we have been working on writing properly structured paragraphs. We have been using the Hamburger template to assist us with our writing. Ask your child what the layers of the hamburger model represent.
During math time, we have learned about various types of triangles - classified by either side length or type of angle. Students have been asked to incorporate 2 of each type of triangle in their art/math project for the Willowpark Contest.
We have also been working on positive thinking skills and self-talk in Health. We will continue this work in the weeks to come.

Our scientific sketching day was focused on our red wiggly friends today. We observed the movement of our little friends while we attempted to sketch them. We were also tasked to locate the 4 main parts of the body (tail, mouth, saddle, segments) and label these parts on our sketches. Students watched as the worms secreted a yellow substance as the excitement increased (noise level increases) as a defence strategy against a predator (the students). Take a peek at our work below.

The worms were a HUGE hit this morning! W learned about the parts of a worm, what they eat and what they do NOT like to eat, as well as their habitat. Room 4 will be hosting a vermicompost for the next 4 weeks. Students will be caring for these beautiful creatures, preforming safe experiments and feeding it. We have already started collecting the right types of food in a small bin in our class. Stay tuned for more information on our 'new' friends.
Remember that the doors open tomorrow for the farewell at 1:45 pm. The assembly will begin at 2:00pm.
