Room 4 has been working on developing their understanding of plant growth and change. Our scientific sketching was focused on the sunflower this week - which brought about many 'I wonder' statements. Students took the time, with a partner, to research in more depth about the sunflower (hopefully answering a few wonders along the way).
Here are a few things the students found through their research:
-the centre of the sunflower is actually thousands of small flowers
-the biggest sunflower was over 30 feet tall
-there are over 70 types of sunflowers
-a sunflower root can grow 1 meter in depth
-a sunflower has between 34 and 89 petals
-the largest sunflower can be found in Germany
-each sunflower can contain between 1000 to 2000 seeds
We look forward to sharing our plant knowledge to you all during conferences this week.
